Hope is a meek frontier dentist 'Painless' Peter Potter, who finds himself gun-slinging alongside the fearless Calamity as she fights off outlaws and Indians.

This 1948 comedy classic, with a zany screenplay by Edmund Hartmann and Frank Tashlin, was Hope's first colour film, and went on to become his biggest box office success, winning an Academy Award for Best Song with 'Buttons and Bows'.
